Critical Thinking and Media Literacy

Critical thinking is the ability to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information from various sources and perspectives, and to apply it to different contexts and situations. Media literacy is the ability to access, understand, create, and communicate using various forms of media, such as text, images, audio, and video. Both skills require curiosity, creativity, and critical awareness of the purpose, audience, and credibility of the information and media.

With social media becoming more and more the way that people consume information the ability to look at any and everything with a critical eye and take nothing at face value without diving into the credibility of the source of the information.

Media and information literacy provides the backbone to understanding media and the role of media in our society, also provides some of the essential skills necessary for critical thinking, analysis, self-expression and creativity – all necessary skills for citizens in a democratic society.
